Dear Fellow Christian, I CAN Vote For Trump

October 21, 2016

Dear Fellow Christian,

Like many of you I have found this election to be a particularly difficult one, which is amazing considering we’ve been through the 2008 and 2012 elections, where I will admit I voted for McCain and Romney, but not very happily.

I’ve been praying about my vote in this crazy 2016 election and I began to wonder if I wasn’t just making it difficult…maybe it really wasn’t. After all God is not the God of confusion.

After spending a considerable amount of time searching God’s Word for His perspective on kings and those in authority and not just assuming I knew what God’s Word said –a definite pattern began to emerge. open-bibleThis scripture passage in particular found in Deuteronomy 16: 18-20 fairly well sums it up, (the capitalization and underlines are mine);

18 “You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your towns which the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment. 19 You shall not distort JUSTICE; you shall not be partial, and you shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous. 20 Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue, that you may live and possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”

In this passage the Israelites would soon be entering the land of Canaan and so provision is being made by God for a permanent civil government and its administration. Notice God tells the Israelites that:

In fact justice, maintaining law and order, and not showing partiality seems to be what God mainly wants to see in a king (read president), for that requirement is repeated several times.

Leviticus 19:15 “You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.”

Proverbs 28:4 “Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but such as keep the law contend with them.”

Proverbs 29: 4 “The king gives stability to the land by justice, but a man who takes bribes overthrows it.”

According to Romans chapter 13:1-7 and 2 Peter 2: 13, 14 the Lord God has placed national governments over mankind for one reason, and that is to punish evil and reward those who do good! We seem to want it to be more complicated than that but it’s really that simple.

I did find one other passage that pertains to choosing a president that adds a little more depth, Exodus 18:21, “Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth.”

Yes, moral character in a President of the United States is important to me and having a committed Evangelical Christian would be nice but….

But if things were different and this election had former President Jimmy Carter running for re-election as an Independent 3rd party candidate (let’s pretend he was 20 years younger and with no health issues), I don’t think I or anyone else could find anything wrong with his moral character. And he is a godly Christian man, in fact a Southern Baptist Sunday School teacher.

But I would not vote for him.

His position on Israel killed it for me, and after the 444 day Iran hostage crisis during his 1st term, I don’t think he could handle a nuclear Iran. But most importantly, I doubt Jimmy Carter for all his morality and good character, could deal with the utter corruption that has a foot hold in every top level of our government. In simple terms, I don’t think he could restore some measure of justice in America. It’s going to take an aggressive lion-hearted man to accomplish that.

The proverb that tells us there is a way that seems right to man, but it’s end is death is one we usually apply to non-believers, but we, as Christians are not immune to thinking something is so right surely God must agree. God seems more interested in justice than  in Christian piety in government leaders in spite of what we often think.

So this decision has become trouble-free for me, (unless something else that sounds like it might be a legitimate accusation against him and has some actual proof for it pops up)— I’m voting for Trump. I’m confidant he will restore and pursue justice, he will punish evildoers, I don’t know what anyone would bribe him with? (Money? Promise him his own TV show? Seriously?), and I believe he reveres God and is extremely transparent and truthful.

He’ll also bring back balance to the Supreme Court, he stands with Israel, be a friend to Christians, and he gave a very clear answer on Roe VS Wade during the 3rd debate without the usual dodging candidates do when the subject of abortion comes up.

As to the other choices, for sure, in my opinion, Hillary Clinton will do the direct opposite of pursuing justice, (good grief that woman will open the door and invite evil to come on in and stay awhile), nor do I see how a 3rd party candidate that can’t possibly in anyone’s wildest dreams get elected is going to pursue justice from the sidelines.

There it is. I’m a Christian and in good conscience I’m voting for Donald Trump.

Now maybe I can sleep at night.

Trump or Complacency?

Trump or Complacency

Let me say right up front my Christian conscience is telling me to vote for Trump in spite of all his apparent flaws and in spite of the fact I just plain do NOT like him. That’s right, I don’t like him, never have liked him and maybe never will. By the way, as a Christian I have to show love, but I don’t have to like him.

But I’m voting for him.

There I said it —- (you want to stop reading at this point, now’s your chance to bail out, because it’s going to get worse, the “back button” ⇐ is up at the top.)

It seems to me “ liberal, progressive, gun grabbing, open borders, Obama-care -loving Democrats” have no problem voting for Hillary, in spite of all her political and character flaws, so more than likely they won’t take votes away from her by “voting their conscience”, (translation= never Trump, never Hillary)

BUT—– in my opinion, Trump could lose because of good Christian folks who just can’t bring themselves to vote for the likes of him, so instead they’ll write in a candidate or vote for a 3rd party candidate, or worse yet, stay home, and tell themselves it’s all good.

I’ve considered the arguments about how that’s not throwing your vote away and I think its all nonsense, bottom line is, if you don’t vote for Trump and he loses—- sorry, add it up any way you want, but you let Clinton win. And in case you haven’t guessed it’s to the undecided or “vote your conscience” folks I am mostly writing to.

And if Hillary wins, then when she appoints liberal Supreme Court judges, giving the far left a majority, and they rule Biblical truth is “hate speech”, and your 1st and 2nd amendment rights fly out the window what will you say then? When Obama-care is even more broken and costly, when the borders are wide open, when Sharia courts are being set up all over the land, when the Muslim Brotherhood is making policy what will you say then? Don’t you get a little nervous when the USA throws Israel under the bus and makes nuclear “deals” with Iran? Well what do you think she’ll do? Then there’s the 36 week abortion thing she’s in favor of and then there’s the whole transgender deal and ,and, and, and…on and on.

There are two main forces at work on the planet today who both want a peaceful world with no more wars.

One is the New World Order folks who want to turn everything over to the United Nations (One World government? Really? Why does that sound like it’s straight from the pits of hell?) And the other is the “peaceful religion” who says there will be peace on earth when everyone has submitted to Islam and Sharia law, (oh yeah, sounds lovely!).

AND A FREE AMERICA STANDS IN THE WAY OF BOTH. (My apologies to my Canadian and Australian friends, but you know whichever way America goes, so goes Canada, so goes Australia.)

Let’s face the truth, we have a far better chance to keep America free with Trump, flawed or not, than we will ever have with Hillary Rodham Clinton. And in a free America we can continue bringing the gospel to the rest of the world besides our efforts to spread the good news of Jesus Christ here at home. But if the gospel becomes hate speech, what then?

Here’s what I think has happened. Americans have prayed and prayed for America, “God bless America”, “God please save America”, “Lord God please give America another chance”, “Lord please give us a good Christian candidate in 2016”.

Pray for America! We see it everywhere. How many prayed for a decent candidate this election cycle? Lots of us, right?

So then along comes this crazy election and we have Clinton and Trump. Numerous Christian Americans say they cannot vote for Clinton, which I perfectly understand what with her stance. Oh and then a bunch of us say we can’t vote for Trump either, even though he stands for all the things most conservative Christians stand for. We pray and pray for America and MAYBE just maybe have you considered in answer to our prayers, God decided Trump and Clinton should run?

Oh but wait Lord, Clinton is ok, because we think she can be beat BUT LORD—— we didn’t mean somebody like TRUMP!

Whoa wait!!!

We wanted a nice squeaky clean, sugar coated, totally flawless church going Christian gentleman with no past, with a ton of federal political experience, but be a Washington DC outsider, ((???))) that can somehow with his mild manners fight off the hounds of hell that will be loosed against him, grab the media’s attention and get his name to the top of every news cycle, in fact drive the news cycle day after day, AND who can take on the Democrats, the mainstream media, Washington DC and the RINO’s all with a single flourish and remain calm and be wildly popular.”

I ask you why would we want such a perfect pie in the sky presidential candidate?

Could it be so we can make the easy choice, go cast our vote, watch him win by a landslide and promptly go back to sleep being our complacent little quiet selves?

COMPLACENCY! This is pretty well what got us in this stupid mess in the first place.

I’m not saying all Americans are complacent, or all Christians, or all voters BUT if you are looking for a PERFECT candidate you might be complacent.

3 more things and then I’m done with my little rant.

+Has it occurred to you that God’s standard operating procedure is to use the deeply flawed?

Let’s see,

*There was Peter who denied Christ three times.

*There was Saul of Tarsus, renamed Paul who at one time was trying to cleanse the earth of Christians by either throwing them into prison or stoning them to death.

*There was King David with the whole Bathsheba affair and then murder her husband thing.

*Then there were some pagan kings like Cyrus the Great and Nebuchadnezzar, who according to history were VERY pagan.

The deeply flawed list goes on and on…But God used them to bring much good to His people.

And then there’s you and me. I don’t know about you my friend, but when God has wanted to use me to touch the lives of others I have many times looked in the mirror and wondered what God wants with a cracked pot vessel like me? But if he can use me, here I am imperfections, flaws and all.

++Has it also occurred to you as Jesus indicated in his parable in Luke 19 we are to occupy until He comes? And I think that means occupy the REAL world where things are sometimes very uncertain, most times very gritty and sometimes even full of smutty soot? It does not mean occupy a make believe world where everything is nice and sanitized.

+++And has it also occurred to us the answer to all this is simple. PRAY FOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY OVER US! Not pray every once in a blue moon because it’s just some more busy work God gave us but it doesn’t REALLY change things, we just do it out of duty, or pray when there’s a special event to pray for our leaders.

NO …pray every day like we really, really believe our prayers can and do change things.

Let me quote the scripture using the Living Bible:

1 TIMOTHY 2: 1–2 (The Living Bible)

1 Here are my directions. Pray much for others. Plead for God’s mercy upon them. Give thanks for all He is going to do for them. Praying this way for kings, and all others who are in authority over us, or in places of high responsibility, so that we can live in peace and quietness spending our time in godly living and thinking much about the Lord.

2 This is good and pleases God our Savior. For He longs for all to be saved and to understand this truth.

Oh and by the way Nero was emperor when Paul wrote that to Timothy. Yeah let that sink in.

Don’t you get it? If I got this right, according to the Biblical narrative God can and does use all kinds of flawed people for vessels of good as long as they are willing to acknowledge Him. (I didn’t say they had to be believers but like Nebuchadnezzar they have to at least acknowledge God the Most High.) And by his own admission Trump does revere God; And He will especially use for good those who willingly own up to their wrongdoing. (As Mr. Trump did.)

When the Scripture says that the “king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water” (Proverbs 21:1), it means that our all powerful God can turn the heart of a king in any way He chooses. AND IF WE WILL JUST LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD AND PRAY PRAY PRAY FOR OUR EARTHLY LEADERS, GOD WILL TAKE NOTE.

I maintain God has something He can work with in the person of Trump. He acknowledges God, he owns up to his wrongdoing, he supports Israel, he will secure the borders, he will be a friend to Christians…come on the list goes on and on. Yeah he’s rough around the edges and a definite unknown politically but God can smooth him over and give him the wisdom of Solomon if he chooses to. And prayer changes things.
